Maud Baldwin
Photo Collection
Maud Baldwin of
Klamath Falls was
among a handful of female photographers in Oregon at the turn of
the 20th century. She took thousands of photos in the Upper Klamath
River Basin, capturing images of scenery, agriculture, Native
Americans, families and everyday life in Klamath Falls.
Maud Baldwin was born Aug. 8, 1878, in Linkville (now Klamath Falls),
Ore., to George T. and Josephine (Nail) Baldwin. She attended Oregon
State Normal School in Monmouth, Ore., beginning in 1894, and in
1905 studied at the California College of Photography in Palo Alto,
Calif. After becoming despondent years later, Maud took her own life
on May 22, 1926.
The Klamath County Museum, with 2009 grant funding from the Oregon
Heritage Commission, scanned nearly 2,000 photos in the Maud Baldwin
collection. More than 300 images have been selected for display on this
Web site.
The photos displayed here appear in large part exactly as they were
scanned from original glass plate or nitrate negatives, or from
original prints. No defects in the images have been removed through
editing. Some images have been cropped.
Copyright statement: The Klamath County Museum asserts a property right
to the Maud Baldwin photographs and negatives in its collection, as
well as digital files created from those images. The Museum's policy
