OVERVIEW
OF THE POSITION
Assists
Weed Control Supervisor on overall weed control program on County owned and
private property under contract within Klamath County. (Seasonal position,
not to exceed 6 months)
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
¨
Assists
Weed Control Supervisor by directing weed crews to job sites and planning work
activities.
¨
Checks
and assures that all weed crew vehicles have necessary safety equipment
(gloves, safety glasses, eye flush, clean water and other equipment) as
required by herbicide label.
¨
Notifies
office when employees take vacation or sick leave and keeps the Weed Control
Supervisor advised of daily operations.
¨
Controls
noxious weeds by chemical application or utilization of hand tools on private
property and property under the control of other agencies.
¨
Repairs
and maintains County weed sprayers and vehicles.
¨
Maintains
current Chemical Applicator's License by attending continuing education
classes.
¨
Completes
daily records of location, type, and application rate of chemicals applied.
¨
Assists
Weed Inspector in the enforcement of noxious weed laws.
OCCUPATIONAL
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES – MUST OBTAIN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT
¨ Valid
Commercial Drive’s License (CDL)
¨ Oregon All Terrain Vehicle Safety Education
card
¨ CPR Certification
¨ First Aid Certificate
¨ Public Chemical Applicator's License (minimum
Categories: Regulatory weed and Right-of-Way)
¨ Flaggers Certification
EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL
PREPARATION
Experience
or training in recognition and eradication of noxious weeds; thorough knowledge
of Klamath County's road system and Oregon State Highway system.
EXCELLENT BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
This is a
full-time seasonal position with the Public Works Department. The starting pay for this position is $15.95 per
hour. Future increases are reviewed annually and are based upon performance and
movement on a 7 step scale which extends up to a current maximum of $20.78 per
hour. The normal work schedule for this position is 6:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.
5 days per week. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor
Standards Act (FSLA) and therefore is eligible for overtime pay.
