Senior Chemical Applicator/Seasonal

Public Works – Weed Division

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Assists Weed Control Supervisor on overall weed control program on County owned and private property under contract within Klamath County. (Seasonal position, not to exceed 6 months)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

¨      Assists Weed Control Supervisor by directing weed crews to job sites and planning work activities.

¨      Checks and assures that all weed crew vehicles have necessary safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, eye flush, clean water and other equipment) as required by herbicide label.

¨      Notifies office when employees take vacation or sick leave and keeps the Weed Control Supervisor advised of daily operations.

¨      Controls noxious weeds by chemical application or utilization of hand tools on private property and property under the control of other agencies.

¨      Repairs and maintains County weed sprayers and vehicles.

¨      Maintains current Chemical Applicator's License by attending continuing education classes.

¨      Completes daily records of location, type, and application rate of chemicals applied.

¨      Assists Weed Inspector in the enforcement of noxious weed laws.

 

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES – MUST OBTAIN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT

¨      Valid Commercial Drive’s License (CDL)

¨       Oregon All Terrain Vehicle Safety Education card

¨       CPR Certification

¨       First Aid Certificate

¨       Public Chemical Applicator's License (minimum Categories: Regulatory weed and Right-of-Way)

¨       Flaggers Certification

 

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION

Experience or training in recognition and eradication of noxious weeds; thorough knowledge of Klamath County's road system and Oregon State Highway system.

This is a full-time seasonal position with the Public Works Department.  The starting pay for this position is $15.95 per hour. Future increases are reviewed annually and are based upon performance and movement on a 7 step scale which extends up to a current maximum of $20.78 per hour. The normal work schedule for this position is 6:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. 5 days per week. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) and therefore is eligible for overtime pay.
