OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Provides direct public health nursing services to the community in any or all of the following programs: Immunizations, Family Planning, Chronic Disease, Communicable Diseases, Maternal Child Health, and/or WIC through screening and prevention activities, surveillance, testing, treatment, counseling, education, case management or other follow up services. Services may be provided in homes, clinic and/or agency settings, and in coordination and collaboration with other Community agencies. “The Public Health Employee may be required to stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to his/her position, or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.”

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

¨      Provides direct public health nursing services to the community, including immunizations, sexually transmitted and blood borne diseases, testing and counseling for communicable diseases, and other public health programs, as needed. 

¨      Provides direct clinic services for a variety of services in conjunction with the Public Health Clinic Practitioner under established standing orders or direct practitioner orders.

¨      Provides follow up on test results with public health clinic clients in accordance with program standards and practitioner direction.

¨      Provides oversight of assigned program services provided by other organizations which the Department contracts or has responsibility to monitor.

¨      Provides guidance about program departmental standards to other public health staff as needed or requested.

¨      Coordinates with medical assistant on the ordering, stocking and inventory of programmatic supplies to ensure appropriate and timely availability.

¨      Organizes and staffs community coalition(s) to improve the prevention/reduction of negative programmatic health indicators, particularly in high-risk populations.

¨      Provides quarterly programmatic chart reviews in compliance with program standards at all service sites.

¨      Attends assigned program in-services and conferences as needed.

¨      Performs other duties as needed.

 

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION

¨      Must possess a current valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon. 

¨      CPR Certification

¨      Possession of a current, valid Oregon driver’s license. 

¨      Bachelor of Nursing degree and public health experience preferred.

 

COMPENSATION

This is a temporary full time position with the Public Health Department.  The starting pay for this position is $21.98 per hour Future increases are reviewed annually and are based upon performance and  movement on a 7 step scale which extends up to a current maximum of $27.42 per hour Starting compensation is determined by Klamath County based upon skill.  The Oregon Nurses Association represents this position.  The normal work schedule is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
