OVERVIEW
OF THE POSITION
Provide
transportation for consumers on a mental health hold in a secure transport
vehicle. Escort consumers and monitor consumer behavior to ensure safety.
Maintain safety of consumer and intervene in crisis situations.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
¨
Drives
a secure transport vehicle for pick-up and delivery of consumers on mental health
holds.
¨
Escorts
consumers on mental health holds to and from hospital and non-hospital holding
facilities and court appearances.
¨
Communicate
with the receiving organization concerning the receipt and security of arriving
consumers to their facilities; follow agency policy, procedure and protocols.
¨
Assesses
situation and applies appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve crisis
situations.
¨
Inspects
vehicle for safety, fuel, oil and water before departure.
¨
Monitors
and observes consumer; records and reports consumers conditions, progress,
behaviors and activity.
¨
Maintains
and updates transport documentation.
¨
Strong
communication skills.
¨
Knowledge
of patient care management including awareness of patient rights, principles,
theories, and practices of highway safety.
¨
Ability
to use security and/or control techniques or devices to ensure safety of
consumers, facilities, property, supplies and equipment.
¨
Ability
to follow written and/or oral instructions.
¨
Ability
to run, maneuver, navigate or drive a transport
vehicle.
¨
Ability
to use non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
¨
Ability
to speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to and understand
information and ideas as presented verbally.
¨
Ability
to administer First-Aid and CPR.
¨
Other
tasks as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL
PREPARATION
A
high school diploma or GED certificate, educational training and/or previous
experience in human services, experience with consumers with severe and
persistent mental illness preferred, and a minimum of 5 years driving
experience.
COMPENSATION
This is an on-call position with the
Mental Health Department. The starting
wage for this position is $14.87 per hour. Future increases are reviewed
annually and are based upon performance and movement on a 7 step scale which
extends up to a current maximum of $19.34 per hour. This position is classified as Non-Exempt by
the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and, therefore, is eligible for overtime
pay.
