OVERVIEW
OF THE POSITION
Provides direct public health nursing services
to families in the community in any or all of the following programs:
Maternal/Child Health, Babies First!, CaCoon and/ or WIC through screening,
health prevention activities, counseling, education, case management and/or
other follow up services. Services may
be provided in homes, clinics and/or other agency settings, and in coordination
and collaboration with other community agencies. "The Public Health Employee may be required to
stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to
perform duties specific to his/her position, or to perform other duties as
requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a
non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during
the incident and/or emergency."
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
t Performs skilled public health nursing services in clinics, homes
or other settings to clients in areas of parent and maternal/child health and
high risk pediatric case management per program guidelines; provides
information and assistance regarding access to other clinic programs and
resources that may improve the health, safety and welfare of the child and family.
t Interviews families and/or clients, gathers medical and social
history, completes a nursing assessment; performs developmental and other
screenings per program guidelines; provides counseling and teaching of basic
health care practices; initiates follow-up care and makes referrals to
physicians or other community agencies or other health resources as needed for
the health, safety and welfare of the client and family.
t Documents nursing services provided and maintains client charts
and other necessary records; provides necessary billing information for case
management and other services appropriately.
t Complies with and maintains program standards for Babies First,
CaCoon and Perinatal services.
t Provides public health care, developmental and other screenings,
direct services and education to families who have children at risk for
developmental delay or children with special health needs.
t Collaborates with other community health and social service
agencies for multidisciplinary case management as necessary to provide optimal
health related services. This may
include representation at Early Intervention, DHS-Child Welfare, MDT and Child
Fatality Team, Healthy Start, and/ or CDRC Outreach Clinics for those clients
on the nurse’s caseload
t Assists with student nurse education and maintenance of automobile
pool for fieldwork.
t Back up field public health nurse duties for Communicable Disease
or outreach immunization clinics.
t In an emergency, this position may be assigned to emergency
response and support roles in a response organization conducting
round-the-clock operations.
t This position is required to participate in emergency response
training, drills, and exercises as assigned.
t Performs other duties as assigned, provided that the scope of the
duties falls within this classification.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES
t Possession of a current valid license as a Registered Nurse in the
State of Oregon.
t Possession of current CPR Certification
t Possession of a current, valid Oregon Drivers License
EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL
PREPARATION
t Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor's
Degree in Nursing preferred.
t Knowledge of, and at least 3 years of experience in, nursing
techniques, maternal child health, pediatric developmental disabilities,
congenital defects, chronic illness, field nursing and developmental testing
programs/procedures; knowledge of medical equipment, knowledge of and
experience in obstetrics, pediatrics and field nursing preferred; knowledge of
interviewing and counseling techniques; knowledge of, and experience in, home
visiting, case management, and domestic child abuse intervention.

Preference will be given to applicants who
are bilingual in English and Spanish.
EXCELLENT BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
This is a full-time
position with the Public Health Department. The salary for this position is $3,887
per month. Future increases are reviewed annually and are based upon
performance. This position works 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, and is
classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA), making it ineligible
for overtime pay.
