OVERVIEW
OF THE POSITION
Provides comprehensive
direct health care and health care education, counseling and advice to patients
throughout the lifespan of their families within the guidelines of licensure
through the Oregon State Board of Nursing and agency policy and procedure.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
¨ Provides primary health care, including direct care, diagnosis,
evaluation, screening, counseling and referral to health care patients.
¨ Performs comprehensive health assessment of clients, including completion
of physical and psychosocial history and identification of actual and potential
health needs based on medical, mental/emotional, financial and social factors.
¨ Performs complete physical examinations, sexual assault exams,
utilizing skills of observation, auscultation, palpation, colposcopy’s
with biopsy, cervical and external cryotherapy, and
percussion using such equipment as stethoscope, otoscope,
reflex hammer, sphygmomanometer, ophthalmoscope, speculum, etc. (May
also provide colposcopyies, cervical and external cryotherapy, but not required of position)
¨ Diagnoses disease; develops appropriate treatment plan, prescribes
medication, orders diagnostic tests and labs, recommends various treatment
modalities, obtains consultation and referrals as indicated.
¨ Manages and coordinates patient care with other staff members,
providers and specialists.
¨ Educates clients concerning preventative health practices, disease
control, health maintenance, family planning, and community resources.
¨ Participates as a team member, providing comprehensive care; in
cooperation with other health team members, analyzes and plans for health needs
of the community as directed.
¨ Charts client visits using SOAP method; dictates by SOAP method;
maintains client records, reports and correspondence in compliance with state
and agency standards.
¨ Maintains professional integrity and strict patient
confidentiality at all times.
¨ Adheres to organizational policies and procedures within the
County, and in accordance with hospital privileges.
¨ Is expected to average 20 patient visits per eight-hour day,
without compromising quality of patient care.
¨ Develops and signs standing orders.
¨ Reviews incoming records and labs, makes recommendations for
follow-up and note any pertinent findings.
¨ Provide brief assessment of staff for illness and if fit for duty.
¨ Collaborate with Family Planning nurse in follow-up of abnormal PAP’s, communicate with Oregon State staff in Family
Planning, STD, and OPHL.
¨ Attend local SART meetings and periodically write grants.
¨ Review death certificates for indications of unusual illness or
trends.
¨ Assist nurses with triage by phone and in clinic.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES
¨ Possession of current valid License as Family Nurse Practitioner
in the State of Oregon.
¨ CPR Certification
EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL
PREPARATION
¨ Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master's
Degree in Nursing; knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; medical and
lab equipment and testing procedures; knowledge of medication; knowledge of
interviewing and counseling techniques.
EXCELLENT BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
This
is a half-time position with the Public Health Department (this position may
also be compensated for being on-call approximately 3 days a week).
The starting salary for this position is $31.59 per hour. Future increases are
reviewed annually and are based upon performance and movement on a 7 step
scale. This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards
Act (FSLA) and therefore is eligible for overtime pay.
