OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Prescribes psychiatric medications and provides medication evaluations and medication management; provides for the overall medical supervision, including psychotherapy, of individuals open to services at Klamath County Mental Health. Must pass a criminal background check prior to offer of employment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

t  Conducts psychiatric evaluations of chronically mentally ill adult individuals.

t  Provides individual and group consultation and training to mental health staff.

t  May review and approve individual treatment plans and other documentation required by Medicaid/Medicare and other policy regulations.

t  Writes or dictates case notes, letters and reports to maintain up-to-date records; documents ongoing activity in each individual's file, in accordance with state and federal requirements; maintains written contact with individuals and community agencies.

t  Provides consultation and training regarding medications to other treatment staff and providers.

t  Educates individuals regarding the appropriate use of medication and its side effects.

t  Provides medication injections to individuals when appropriate and medically necessary.

t  Prescribes, manages and monitors medications for Klamath County Mental Health (KCMH) individuals.

t  Provides advice and consultation on general health care needs of individuals.

t  Coordinates individual health care with the medical community when needed.

t  May conduct commitment hearing examinations and testify as a non-physician Medical Examiner in civil commitment hearings.

t  Participates in On-Call rotation.

t  Other duties as assigned.

 

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES

t  Minimum - possession of a Master's Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and Certification (or eligibility for) in Oregon as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

t  CPR Certification

 

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION

t  Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master's Degree in Nursing

t  Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; medical and lab equipment and testing procedures

t  Knowledge of medication

t  Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.

 

EXCELLENT BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position with the Mental Health Department. The starting salary for this position is $5,617 per month. Future increases are reviewed annually and are based upon performance and movement on a 7 step scale which extends up to a current maximum of $7,317 per month. This position works 40 hours per week; exact work schedules will be determined by management. This position is represented by International Laborers Union, Local 121. This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) making it non- eligible for overtime pay.
