What is WIC?
The
Oregon Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program provides food
and nutrition information to help keep pregnant women, infants and
children under five healthy and strong. WIC provides information
that helps families access maternal, prenatal and pediatric health
care services.
WIC
Works Wonders!
 |
For Women |
Women
in the WIC program eat better, have healthier babies and
receive early prenatal care.
 |
For Infants |
Infants
born to WIC mothers weigh more and grow and develop better.
 |
For Children |
Children
on WIC eat foods with more iron and vitamin C, visit their
doctors regularly and receive their shots.

Classes
WIC offers a wide variety
of educational classes for clients, including an array of
classes in Spanish. Clients receive nutrition counseling at each
certification appointment and are required to attend at least
one nutrition education class in each 6 month certification
period.

Breastfeeding
We are strong advocates
for breastfeeding and provide the following services to our
clients: Breastfeeding classes are offered monthly. All of our certifiers and dietitian are
also educated on breastfeeding issues and can answer the typical
concerns. If a client has a more in depth problem or concern,
our lactation education meets with them and helps them deal with these issues.
We offer manual and electric breast pumps free of charge to our
breastfeeding mothers as a means of helping them to maintain
breastfeeding, particularly when returning to work. The WIC
program statewide offers an expanded food package for
breastfeeding women and the opportunity to remain on the program
for a year postpartum if a woman breastfeeds for that length of
time. We also provide individual nutrition counseling with our
registered dietitian for all high-risk clients.

outreach services to the following communities:
 |
