With the STARS curriculum, Oregon middle school students:

Learn about the consequences of early sexual involvement

Discuss reasons for waiting to become sexually involved

Learn ways to resist peer pressure

Model skills which will help teens say NO to sexual involvement

The Power of Positive Peer and Social Influence

Trained high school students present five sessions to middle school students to teach them that saying no to early sexual involvement is the best choice.

A Community Effort

Coordinated by the Department of Human Services, STARS is a private public partnership serving thousands of middle school children across Oregon.

The STARS Foundation is a private no profit organization that supports and promotes STARS. Developing partnerships with hospitals and health care systems, large and small businesses, school districts, parents, the STARS Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality standards for long term sustainability of STARS.

"The benefits of the STARS curriculum are enormous. We believe that teaching students why - and most importantly how - they should say no to early sexual involvement will help young people avoid the tragedy of teen pregnancy. Oregon's young people have too much at stake to get caught up in the negative consequences of early sexual involvement. Oregon's STARS Program helps students choose abstinence and we welcome your involvement in the important effort" - Sharon Kitzhaber, First Lady of Oregon.
